SMS Band Earns Distinguished Rating

Congratulations to Mr. Paul Metzger and the SMS 7th/8th grade bands. The group earned a Distinguished rating at the recent KMEA band festival held in Madisonville. The band received distinguished ratings from 3 judges for their stage performance as well as a distinguished for music sight reading.

SMS Archery News

The HC Archery Program hosted and competed in the KY NASP 2 Regional Tournament with over 800 archers and 38 schools from across Western Kentucky. The top 3 teams of each division, the top 5 Female/ Male of each division. The Top Female/Male for the tournament were awarded. Several Teams took home awards. Please see the results below:
South Middle School took home 2nd place with a team score of 3282 for Region 2.

SMS Dance Team State Champions!

Congrats to our SMS dance team! They competed at KDCO State Dance Competition in Frankfort today defending their state championship by finishing first in Hip Hop. They placed 2nd in Pom routine and won the title of BEST of the BEST overall!

SMS To Have Annual Literacy Night

South Middle School will host their Books & Barks Literacy night on Feb. 20th. There will be a free dinner from 4:30 to 6:00 as well as booths in the gym until 6:30. The booths feature a book swap corner where you can bring a book to get a book. If you bring an animal shelter donation, you will receive a free SMS Bulldog cinch bag. Items may include any dog/cat supplies such as: collars, toys, canned food, bed or bowls. We will also accept cleaning supplies such as Dawn dish washing liquid, bleach, paper towels or a money donation. SMS Archery Standouts

SMS Archery traveled to Madisonville KY this past weekend and participated in the Chris the King Open tournament. SMS archery brought home the medal for 2nd
place with a team score 3231.

Individual archers brought home a medal also.

Female Middle Division:
2nd place – Kyra Haynes- South Middle - with a score of 281
4th place – Nora St Pierre – South Middle - with a score of 281

SMS Archery had an individual shoot at the Trojan Classic in Dixon KY.
Masey Wilson brought home a 2nd place medal with a score of 259.

School of Fine Arts Application

Really BIG news to share out to everyone! 8th and 9th grade students from NMS, SMS and HNS are now able to APPLY on the website for SoFA. School of Fine Arts at Henderson County High School. Students will apply for one of four areas: Instrumental, Theater, Visual Art or Voice. A student may apply for more than one area but ultimately they will be accepted into only ONE area if accepted into SoFA.
The application process consists of the completion of the online application, getting two online recommendations completed by individuals that know the applicants attributes and an audition/interview.
Online APPLICATION and online RECOMMENDATIONS (2) are due by 5:00 pm Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
APPLICANTS that met all of the guidelines will be notified via email regarding their audition(s)/interview time(s). ALL audition(s)/interview(s) will take place on Monday and Tuesday, March 5 & 6 from 4 pm until 9 pm. Each candidate will be notified via email of their specific time.

Freshman Baseball Info

“Tryouts for the freshman baseball team will begin this Thursday, Feb. 15th. The tryout schedule is as follows:

Thursday, 5 pm to 6:15 pm
Friday, 5:30 pm to 7 pm
Saturday, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Please meet in the baseball locker room at HCHS to start each day. Each student must have a valid physical on file or with them at tryouts to participate. Please contact Head Coach Adam Hines if you’d like more info.”

SMS cheer competion team competed at the Valentine Classic competion on February 10th at Hopkins Central High School. They came in 2nd place. They also won the overall Spirit Award which was voted on by all the squads performing. These girls have worked numerous hours with true SMS dedication
